READING, Pa. – Reading City Council voted unanimously Monday to adopt an ordinance authorize the sale of the 49.17-acre property known as the Dana South site at 1 Berkshire Place for $5 million to C&B Development LLC.

The intended use of the property is for industrial uses, warehouse distribution and manufacturing.

Mayor Eddie Moran said the sale going forward is an important step to the city’s future.

“I cannot express enough how extremely happy I am for the residents of Reading who are going to have an opportunity to see again the city that everyone loves so much come to fruition with the sale of this project,” Moran said.

“We’re talking about nearly 50 acres that have been vacant since vacated by the Dana Company,” he said. “So, to see it come to a productive place in our community, it’s really exciting, especially even more so that it’s also a local responsible contractor that has assured us that there will be some retail and some warehousing, creating some much needed sustainable employment and revitalize that area.”

City Council members also expressed optimism for the city with the sale of the property.

Councilmember Raymond Baker said he is glad to see the sale go forward.

“It’s a good sign for the city that we are selling this property to an interested buyer to redevelop the area,” Baker said. “I’ve understood there were many (previous) false starts, and I pray that this is the final start and that we see some product moving forward.”

Several councilmembers congratulated Moran and the administration for being instrumental in securing a developer for the site.
