SCRANTON — Due to a clerical error, Jimmy Clark, a sharpshooter all season, didn’t get a chance to shoot during the 3-point contest.

When he entered the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association Senior All-Star Game, he decided to show off his skills from beyond the arc.

The Dunmore standout made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 26 points to lead the Red All-Star Team to a 115-104 win over the Blue All-Star Team on Monday night to drop the curtain on the 2025-26 boys basketball season at Scranton High School.

“There was a little mix-up there where they said I was shooting last, and then Brayden (Canavan) got switched for me,” said Clark, who was selected as his team’s Most Valuable Player. “I was a little upset, so I decided to get my 3-pointers in the game.”

With Clark leading the way, the Red Team rained down an attack of 3-pointers, finishing with 23.

Valley View senior Noah Symuleski went 5 for 5 on his long-range shots and had 15 points. Dunmore senior Nate Aviles swished four 3-pointers and had 14 points, West Scranton’s Nate Schimelfenig made three and had 13 points, Scranton senior Tony Battaglia, playing in his final game for coach and father, Tony Battaglia, had two 3-pointers and Scranton Prep’s Packy Doherty and Riverside’s Michael Schimelfenig each had one.

Michael Schimelfenig, a Lackawanna Division II all-defensive player, put on a shooting display in the pre-game 3-point contest. He made 21 to win and outduel his cousin, Abington Heights senior Jordan Shaffer.

“It’s kind of funny,” said Schimelfenig, who had 23 3-pointers in 27 games. “Coming out shooting 3s, I couldn’t have shot better. Once I started making a couple, and I was going against my cousin, so I had to beat him, and I really started to get it going.”

The Blue Team got off to a fast start and battled the hot-shooting Red Team throughout the high-scoring battle. Shaffer, the Lackawanna Division I player of the year, led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds to earn his team’s MVP award.

“This was awesome,” Shaffer said. “Got to have some fun and play one last high school game of basketball.”

The fast-paced game featured outstanding performances and intense competitiveness for an all-star game.

The Red Team took control with defensive pressure spearheaded by players from Dunmore. Clark scored 10 points in the second quarter when the Red Team outscored the Blue Team, 27-18, to take a 56-43 lead at the half.

In the third, Shaffer scored nine points. Elk Lake’s John Heitsman, the Lackawanna Division III player of the year and defensive player of the year, scored seven of his 11 points, and Delaware Valley’s Tyler Lombardo, who played for his coach Kris Holtzer for the last time, scored five of his 14 points as the Blue Team seized a 76-74 lead after three quarters.

“It got competitive out there,” Shaffer said. “When you have guys of this caliber, everybody wants to win, so to have a close game in the fourth quarter is great.”

The Red Team would not be denied and outscored the Blue Team, 41-28, in the fourth quarter. Symuleski was money and drilled three from beyond the arc, and Clark also had three, including one on the final shot of the game, to secure the win.

“After the first couple of minutes of the game, everybody was just kind of jogging around,” Clark said. “I told my group that when we went into the game, we were going full-court pressure man-to-man. We picked up the intensity.

“I love to compete, and I told the guys there was no way that I was losing my last game.”

Old Forge’s Cameron Parker had 13 points, and teammate Logan Fanning had seven, including one of his signature two-handed dunks for the Blue Team. Heitsman had the best dunk— a windmill on a fast break — during a fourth-quarter rally by the Blue Team.
