The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority unveiled four new Compressed Natural Gases Trolley buses and other mass transit vehicles at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 20th.

The EMTA has acquired these new vehicles with funds provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Federal Transportation Administration. The four CNG Gillig Trolley buses will be added to EMTA’s fixed route operations later next month. Additional 40-foot CNG buses and paratransit LIFT vehicles will also be added to the authority’s fleet throughout 2026.

“We are thrilled to announce these exciting new additions to our fleet,” says Jeremy Peterson, EMTA CEO. “Our existing Trolleys have been on the road since 2006, providing thousands of rides over the last 20 years. These new vehicles help us to provide the best possible service to the folks of Erie County and reduce our carbon footprint as CNG buses release less emissions.”

Each new Trolley is equipped with an ADA accessible ramp and mobility device securements, antimicrobial seats, USB charging ports and free WIFI capabilities for passengers.

Local officials and members of the press were invited to a brief presentation and ribbon cutting of the new vehicles to view the buses at a press event hosted at EMTA’s East 14th Street joint operations facility.
