PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Philadelphia’s famous food was the subject of a world record attempt today: the longest line of cheesesteaks.
The project, more than a year in the making, was the result of a partnership with PHL Food and Shops (Marketplace PHL), the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation, and many community partners.
Amoroso’s Baking Company provided more than one thousand rolls. Cooper Sharp hauled in more than 200 pounds of cheese. Over 900 pounds of chopped beef came courtesy of Philly’s Best Steak. Meanwhile, Chickie’s & Pete’s lent a hand with kitchen equipment, preparation space, volunteers and more.
Participants split up in teams to tackle the preparation. It all came together in just a couple hours.
The record was verified by a representative from Guinness World Records, who counted 1,291 cheesesteaks that met the criteria.
