An unfolding police situation in the 2400 block of Applebutter Road in Lower Saucon Township Wednesday led public safety officials to issue a shelter in place advisory for nearby residents.

Northampton County Emergency Management Services said an alert was issued at 11:34 a.m. to residents within half a mile of where the police activity was occurring, advising them to stay away from windows and doors.

Applebutter Road was also closed to traffic in that area, which is near the Bethlehem Landfill.

County EMA officials said a notification would be issued when the shelter in place advisory is lifted.

Channel 69 News reported that police had responded to a “report of a barricade situation,” which they said was unconfirmed.
