READING, Pa.- Maria Veloz came to visit her daughter. But instead, she walked into this. A car split in two after hitting a utility pole, a scene she said she had never seen before.
“It was a very ugly accident… very ugly. I’ve never seen anything like that,” said Veloz of Reading.
It happened just before 2 p.m. Wednesday near North Front and Exeter streets in Reading.
Preliminary reports say a car slammed into a utility pole with so much force it snapped it in half and left the vehicle overturned. Despite the damage, there are no reports of serious injuries.
The crash also brought in crews working to replace the damaged pole.

“Today we had a car hit a pole, so we’re here to change that pole,” said John Francis of Baldwin Electric.
Baldwin Electric workers said they responded immediately.
“It’s a team effort of our shop getting us all lined up to be able to get out here with the trucks and get them back up and running, and keep them back up and running,” Francis explained.
For now, crews say they will put a temporary fix in place.
“It’s going to take us a couple hours to get it temporary up, and then we’re going to come back in, set a new pole, and get everything permanent,” Francis added.
