CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Trout season in Pennsylvania is around the corner and waterways across the state are getting stocked.
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, anglers and students from the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School Fly Fishing Club stocked three different sections of Black Moshannon State Park.
The high school students used barrels they built to evenly distribute the rainbow and golden rainbow trout along the creek.
Officials say having the fish in the barrels helps make sure they are not all in one spot.
“Black Moshannon Creek is kind of unique in itself, there’s some stops where you put buckets out, people carry them down. Also, there’s some sections that are hard to get to, the float boxes will come down through, put fish out as they go down through; it gets fish in spots that people can’t carry buckets down to.”
Mentored youth fishing day takes place this Saturday, while trout season for all anglers officially begins Saturday, April 4th at 8 a.m.
