A Pennside woman is accused of stealing about $30,000 worth of rings and necklaces from a Robeson Township home where she was working as a home health aide, township police said.

Krystena Arroyo, 19, of the 800 block of Carsonia Avenue is charged with felony theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. She was arraigned Wednesday night before District Judge Ann L. Young in Reading Central Court and remains free while awaiting a hearing.

According to court records:

Police were called to the home late Tuesday afternoon after a homeowner discovered several rings and necklaces missing from her jewelry box.

The woman said her husband recently returned home after suffering a stroke and she had hired a home health care agency to assist with his care. Arroyo was one of the aides assigned to the home.

Arroyo arrived around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the woman told police. The homeowner left to run errands while Arroyo tended to her husband. When she returned, her husband reported hearing Arroyo in rooms she was not supposed to enter. The couple also noticed she had brought a purse into the home, which they said was unusual.

Arroyo left around 3 p.m. A short time later, the woman discovered seven rings — including a diamond‑sapphire ring — and four necklaces were missing when she took off the jewelry she had worn for the day.

A manager at the agency told police that she confronted Arroyo after receiving the client’s call. Arroyo returned two rings, claiming her ex‑boyfriend told her to take them, but denied taking anything else. The manager told police that Arroyo’s employment was terminated.

Police contacted Arroyo about an hour later. She told officers that she found two rings on the kitchen counter and put them in her pocket but forgot to return them before leaving. She denied taking any additional jewelry and refused to provide her home address. Investigators believe she lives in an apartment in the 800 block of Carsonia Avenue.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., a representative from the agency returned two rings to the homeowners, including the diamond‑sapphire ring. Details of Arroyo’s arrest were not immediately available.
