READING, Pa. – Outstanding efforts were recognized at this year’s Spirit of Civility Awards.

The non-profit “Common Ground USA” hosted an awards gala at the Berks History Center in Reading Thursday.

Some of those recognized helped with the flood recovery efforts in the Antietam area and the COVID-19 response.

Others are known for helping inmates once they’re released from jail.

Organizers say the goal is to honor people and groups that exemplify leadership, service, and a commitment to unity.

“We looked for people who demonstrated a commitment to bridge building. People who were serious about reaching across lines of difference to work with people. People who demonstrate civility in their own words and actions,” said Will Fuller, Pa. State Lead for the Resilient States Project.

Organizers say similar awards events like this one take place in other countries as well.
