Four doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning highlighted a four-run rally that gave Scranton a 6-4 come-from-behind win over Abington Heights in the Lackawanna League Division I baseball opener Thursday at Scranton High School.
John Montoro, Erick Guerrero, Jack Skeras and Adrian Hernandez each had doubles in the inning. Skeras’ RBI double tied the game and Hernandez’s two-run double gave the Knights the lead.
Hernandez finished with three RBIs and Cayden Booth had two hits for Scranton. Drew Leonori pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory.
Finn Goldberg was 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the Comets. Luke Dougherty chipped in two hits and one RBI.
North Pocono 5, Valley View 0: At Valley View, Mike Hatala and Brayden VonAhnen combined on a three-hit shutout to lead the Trojans to a Division I victory.
Hatala earned the win, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out five in four innings. VonAhnen allowed two hits and struck out five in three innings.
Henry Wolff had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, Josh Kalinowski had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, Connor Ruddy had two hits and Rory McAndrew had a two-run single for North Pocono.
Jack Sheridan had a doubel for the Cougars.
Delaware Valley 14, Scranton Prep 9: At Connell Park, Liam Onofry had two home runs, four RBIs and three runs to lead the Warriors to a Division I win.
Londyn Hernandez had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and three runs, and Jesse Hawke added two hits, including a double, two RBIs and one run for Delaware Valley.
Eli Zapotoski had two hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs for the Cavaliers.
Mid Valley 14, Old Forge 1: At Mid Valley, Nick Mills homered twice and finished with three hits and five RBIs as the Spartans powered to a five-inning victory over Old Forge in a Lackawanna League Division II opener.
Brett Yanoski and Jeremy Cali added two hits and three RBIs apiece for the Spartans, who scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and seven more in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Romanosky had two hits, including a triple.
Jake Bondy allowed one run on five hits in four innings with no walks and four strikeouts. Christian Ellis struck out all three batters he faced in the fifth to end it.
Elio Castaldi was 2 for 2 for the Blue Devils.
Lakeland 10, Holy Cross 1: At Throop, Kody Miller had a double and a home run among his three hits and drove in three runs to lead Lakeland past Holy Cross in a Lackawanna League Division II opener at Washington Street Park.
David Naniewicz also had three hits, including two doubles, for the Chiefs. Chase Magnot added two hits and John Paul Malak had a solo home run.
Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter for Lakeland.
Charlie Marx, Jacob Shedlauskas and J.J. Concepcion each had singles for Holy Cross.
Elk Lake 13, Blue Ridge 5: At New Milford Park, Lucas Benscoter had three hits and two RBIs to help lead Elk Lake past Blue Ridge in a Lackawanna Division III opener.
Stephen Newhart added two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors. Alden Felker homered and had three RBIs. Brayden Miller and Cohen Orlandini each chipped in two hits and one RBI.
Brendan Marvin went 4 for 4 for the Raiders. Jackson Parks contributed two hits.
Softball
North Pocono rebounded from its loss to Northwest on Wednesday to defeat Dallas, 9-1, in a nonleague softball game Thursday at the Back Mountain Little League field.
Isabella Forgione and Avarie Roscioli each had three hits for the Lady Trojans, while Adyson Iyoob added two hits and two RBIs. Riley Grambo and Paige Dymek also drove in two runs each.
Winning pitcher Amelia Bell allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven. She had her shutout bid spoiled in the bottom of the seventh on a home run by Sydney Haydu.
Blue Ridge 7, Elk Lake 5: At Blue Ridge, the Lady Raiders rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a walk-off victory over Elk Lake in a Lackawanna League Division III opener.
Hailey Champang had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for Blue Ridge. Abby Piechocki and Peyton Rutter added two hits apiece. Winning pitcher Hailey Carpenetti struck out nine.
Nami Patton had two hits for the Lady Warriors, who scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Pittston Area 11, Riverside 1 (5 inn.): In Hughestown, Pittston Area jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and rolled to a five-inning win over Riverside in nonleague play.
Samantha Herbert had another big night for the Lady Patriots — going 3 for 4 with four RBIs, including a double. Lil Hintze, Gabby Roman, Jillian Haas and Mikaila Sarf each added two hits.
Taylor Stephenson picked up the win, allowing three hits in two innings. Herbert struck out four in relief.
Kate Reynolds had two of the five Riverside hits.
