Olivia Thomas made a smashing debut, starting her varsity high school track and field career with three school records.

Mid Valley’s fantastic freshman broke marks in the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump, and added a win in the high jump in a 104-35 win over Elk Lake in a Lackawanna Track Conference Division III-IV crossover meet Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas, who shredded records in junior high, won the 100 hurdles in 14.54 seconds to exceed the mark of 15.25 set last season by teammate Natalie Talluto. She broke the long jump record with a leap of 17 feet, 2 inches to better the old record of 15-7 held by Haley Drutarovsky in 2014, and established a new mark in the triple with a distance of 36-8, again beating the record held by Drutarovsky of 15-7 set in 2012.

Thomas’ time in the 100 hurdles is the third-fastest run in LTC history. Lakeland’s Cassidy Jenkins (14.28 in 2015) and Susquehanna’s Skyla Wilson (14.52 in 2018) are the only two better.

Talluto, who recently committed to Army, won the 100 and the 300 hurdles and was second to Thomas in the 100 hurdles for the Spartanettes.
