WHITEHALL, Pa. – An elderly woman has been hospitalized after an apartment fire in Lehigh County on Thursday.
Whitehall fire crews responded to a report of an apartment fire at Olympic Gardens at about 2:15 p.m..
When firefighters and police arrived, smoke was coming from the building, and there were reports of a person trapped in an apartment, according to county dispatchers.
Whitehall’s Deputy Fire Chief confirmed to 69 News that police assisted an elderly female as she was trying to crawl out of her apartment.
That woman was transported to a local hospital by EMS, according to officials. As of Friday, she remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
The apartment building was evacuated and the tenants were displaced temporarily on Thursday.
Whitehall Fire Chief Mark Bilder says that everyone displaced will return to their apartments by Friday, excluding the apartment where the fire started.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
