Leopold Sukiennik, age 90, of Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania , passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026.

Born on March 20, 1935, in Odessa, Russia, he was the son of the late Gita and Chaim Sukiennik.

Leopold was a devoted father to Esther, Lana and Dani Sukiennik, and a loving grandfather to Jacob, Ahmi, and Ben. He is also survived by his sister, Lana Hadley.

A talented and accomplished structural engineer, Leopold played an integral role in the design and development of numerous bridges throughout Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the region he called home. Beyond his professional achievements, he was also a passionate and highly skilled chess player, earning multiple championships and trophies over the years.

Leopold had a deep love for life and learning. He enjoyed reading and was always eager to expand his knowledge. An active and adventurous spirit, he found joy in walking, swimming, sailing, and spending time outdoors. He embraced every season, skiing in the winter and playing tennis and golf in the warmer months. On weekends, he could often be found ballroom dancing, a reflection of his vibrant personality and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He also loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and attended the game where the famous immaculate reception happened!

Leopold will be remembered for his intelligence, curiosity, and zest for life, as well as for the love he shared with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
