After the first day of the DeSales Spring Classic at Olde Homestead Golf Club in New Tripoli, the University of Scranton leads the team standings with a 20-over 308.
Albright “B” team is three shots back in second place, while Arcadia is four shots behind in third place.
Richard Essen and Cade Kelleher each shot 3-over 75 to lead the Royals and sit tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Gehrig Shannon and Juliano Nieto are tied for eighth with 7-over 79. Jack Novis, Scranton’s fifth golfer, shot 83 and is tied for 20th.
Frankie Sass of Arcadia is the individual leader with an even-par 72. Albright’s Filip Hjerten is second at 1-over 73 and Matthew Smith of DeSales is third at 2-over 74.
The tournament concludes Saturday.
Baseball
At Tysons Corner, Virginia, Marywood University lost its Atlantic East Conference opener to Marymount University, 5-1, on Friday.
Mike Biskup had two hits, including a home run in the second inning to account for the lone offense for the Pacers (10-8, 0-1).
Marymount tied the game in the bottom of the third, went ahead on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, then added two insurance runs in the sixth.
Sussex County CC 13, Lackawanna 7: At Scranton, Sussex County Community College scored nine runs in the seventh inning to defeat Lackawanna in a NJCAA Region 19 Division II game.
Solo home runs by Jake Virbitsky and Daniel Stickney and three sacrifice flies gave Lackawanna a 5-0 lead after four innings. But Sussex scored all its runs in the final four innings. After getting on the board in the sixth, the Skylanders broke loose in the seventh to take a 10-5 lead.
Virbitsky finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Falcons (8-12 overall, 3-1 region). Stickney also had two RBIs.
