For the second time in the last three seasons, Scranton Prep’s girls tennis team is the best in the state in Class 2A.

Lily Lengel and Emma Cuck had wins in singles, and the No. 1 doubles duo of Adith Velaga and Maci Bulzoni had a win to lead the Classics to a 3-2 victory over District 1 champion Lower Moreland on Saturday night at the PIAA Team Championships at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Scranton Prep (21-0) also won the PIAA Class 2A title in 2023 and finished as the runner-up in 2024. All three championship final matches were against Lower Moreland.

In the last three seasons, Scranton Prep had a record of 81-5 overall.

The Classics’ state team championship is the second of the fall sports season at the school. The Scranton Prep boys golf team captured the Class 2A crown Wednesday.

Lengyel captured an intense battle with Lower Moreland freshman Khaya Lukov, 6-1, 7-6 (9), at No. 1 singles. The win gives the junior a 10-1 record all-time in the PIAA team tournament. She also finished the season with a record of 23-2.

Cuck, who has been dominant in state team play, defeated Abigail Yanovitsky, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. She won for a 13th time in 14 singles matches in the state team tournament in her career.

In addition, Cuck concluded her singles career with a record of 81-2.

For the first time in this year’s tournament, Scranton Prep needed a win from a doubles team to win the overall match. Velaga and Bulzoni supplied it with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jena Nikhil and Erica Zhao.

Lower Moreland, which defeated the Classics last season, got a win at No. 3 singles from freshman Natalie Chania, 6-4, 6-1. It was LaCoe’s first loss this season at No. 3 singles, and she finished her first season in the starting singles lineup with a 20-1 record.

Ava Raitman and Sophia Cherepakhim defeated Scranton Prep’s team of Grace James and Donatella DeNaples, 6-2, 6-2.

Earlier in the day, Scranton Prep reached the final with a win over District 7 champion North Catholic in the semifinals.
