Cities in our area are showing their solidarity with the transgender community.

In Reading, a flag was raised at City Park to celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility, which is Tuesday.

Reading Pride teamed up with the city for the event.

Members of Reading City Council were there.

The head of Reading Pride said the day is more than just about raising a flag.

“It’s also a call to action. When you see misinformation, when you see discrimination, it’s our responsibility as community members to stand up for the people that are being hurt by this,” Sean Flannery said, president of Reading Pride Celebration.

A flag-raising ceremony was also held outside City Hall in Bethlehem Sunday morning.

It’s the first of three similar ceremonies being held this week in the Lehigh Valley.

There will be two more on Tuesday in Allentown and Easton.
