PHILADELPHIA – It was a weekend defined by impact performances at the plate and dominance on the mound across the Philadelphia college baseball landscape.
La Salle’s Chase Swain and Saint Joseph’s Cole Fehrman have been named the Philadelphia Baseball Review Division I Offensive and Pitcher of the Week, presented by Wheelhouse Cards, following standout efforts in Atlantic 10 play.
Swain paced La Salle’s offense during its series at George Washington, delivering consistent production across all three games. The junior went a combined 7-for-14 (.500) over the weekend, scoring two runs and driving in three while adding a double and a home run.
His most impactful performance came in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, when he collected three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs. He followed that with another three-hit effort in Saturday’s series finale, continuing to set the tone atop the Explorers’ lineup.
Swain’s ability to generate quality contact in key spots helped La Salle remain competitive throughout the series. The Explorers now sit at 14-14 overall and 3-6 in Atlantic 10 play as they look to build momentum heading deeper into conference action.
On the mound, Fehrman delivered one of the most dominant pitching performances of the season.
The Saint Joseph’s right-hander tossed 8 1/3 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball in a victory, allowing just a single hit while striking out 11. He worked around three walks and two hit batters, but consistently overpowered hitters, limiting hard contact and controlling the tempo throughout his outing.
Fehrman threw 118 pitches across 31 batters faced, recording an even split of seven fly-ball outs and seven ground-ball outs while keeping opposing hitters off balance from start to finish.
The Central Bucks West product is carrying a 0.83 ERA over his previous two starts.
His performance came as part of a strong stretch for Saint Joseph’s, which stands at 15-11 overall and 8-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Hawks suffered their first conference loss of the season on Sunday, falling in a ninth-inning heartbreaker at Fordham, but remain firmly positioned near the top of the league standings.
