Nazareth Area extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 3-1. Everything went their way against the Bethlehem Catholic Hawks as they made off with a 12-3 win. The Blue Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.
Bobby Grzenda made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What’s more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he’s had since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter’s box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ethan Strawn was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chase Biedermann, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Nazareth Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.
As for Bethlehem Catholic, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road defeats can’t be blamed on the team’s hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.8 runs over those games.
Like Nazareth Area, Bethlehem Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Louden Hower. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Hower was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. That hit was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Emmett Burns made the most of his time in the batter’s box despite the final result and got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Looking ahead, Nazareth Area will take on William Allen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Eagles’ pitchers better be ready for this one: the Canaries have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Bethlehem Catholic, they will face off against Northampton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks’ pitchers better be ready for this one: the Konkrete Kids have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season.
