A teenage driver is facing charges after police said he hit and killed a tractor-trailer driver on the side of the road in Washington County last summer and fled the scene.Â
According to Pennsylvania State Police, 18-year-old Jaxon Farrell of Oakdale was driving on the ramp from State Route 22 to the Southern Beltway in Robinson Township, Washington County, when he hit and killed 46-year-old Brian Everhart from Russellville, Tennessee, on the afternoon of Aug. 25.Â
Everhart had pulled over on the entrance ramp from Route 22 to Pennsylvania Turnpike 576 to investigate a mechanical issue with his truck, the Washington County Coroner’s Office said.Â
Police said Farrell hit Everhart while he was outside of his truck and didn’t stop to help. Farrell kept driving until his car broke down on the Southern Beltway, investigators said. He was interviewed and later released after police talked to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.
After an investigation, police said Farrell was charged on Monday. Court paperwork shows he’s facing 20 counts, including homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, driving without a license, reckless driving and tampering with evidence. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 28.Â
