Trout Season kicks off in Pennsylvania, 3.2 million fish stocked

PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is reminding residents that Trout Season begins on Saturday, April 4.

The 2026 season will see about 3.2 million adult trout stocked in 684 streams and 130 lakes. The standard size for stocked trout is 11 inches long with an average weight of .58 pounds.

The 2026 Trout Stocking Schedule is available on the PFBC website for those looking to see which waters are freshly stocked.

Anyone who partakes in fishing Commonwealth waters, including children, is required to create an account in the PFBC permit system. The process can be completed online or at a retail license issuing location. Those fishing from a boat are reminded of the PFBC’s cold-weather life jacket requirement, which is in effect from November 1 through April 30.
