(WHTM)– The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is pausing the purchases of multiple warehouses that are intended to be converted into ICE detention centers.

An insider at the department, under anonymity, told the Associated Press that contracts made under former Secretary Kristi Noem are under review. The move includes planned purchases and already purchased warehouses.

The DHS has purchased two Pennsylvania warehouses to convert into ICE detention centers. One is located in Schuylkill County and the other in Berks County.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has strongly opposed the planned detention centers in the state, saying he will demand that state law be properly followed before they are constructed, including providing proper wastewater and ventilation systems.

It is unclear how long these reviews would take.
