CHARLOTTE — Ville Koivunen made sure that seven was the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ lucky number Saturday night.

Koivunen scored in the overtime period as the Penguins rallied past the Charlotte Checkers, 3-2, at Bojangles Coliseum.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton extends its winning streak to seven as the Penguins swept the weekend series with the Checkers.

But the seventh victory didn’t look like it was going to happen.

The Checkers took a 2-1 lead in the second period after Colton Huard’s first goal of 2025 gave Charlotte a 2-1 lead. But Danton Heinen answered eight minutes later on a power-play goal, scoring off assists from Koivunen and Ryan Graves to knot it at 2-2 at the second intermission.

It stood that way throughout the third, sending it into overtime. There, it was Koivunen netting his fourth goal of the year to improve the Penguins to 7-0 on the year.

The Penguins bring their perfect record home for two games at Mohegan Arena. They take on Providence on Wednesday in an Atlantic Division showdown, and host Bridgeport on Halloween night. The Pens hit the road Saturday to Utica to cap off the three-match week.
