PHILADELPHIA – A 3-year-old boy is fighting for his life after police say he was shot in the head at a Philadelphia Housing Authority apartment late Wednesday night in the city’s Grays Ferry neighborhood.
What we know:
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 2600 block of South 26th Street around 11 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Police learned that a 3-year-old boy was shot in the head and taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia by family members, according to investigators.
Five people were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, 3 of whom were taken in for questioning after telling conflicting stories and being uncooperative, police said.
The apartment where the shooting took place is a Philadelphia Housing Authority property.
Police say no gun was found during their initial investigation, but a magazine was recovered.
What we don’t know:
Investigators have not said what lead up to the shooting.Â
“At this time, we’re not certain how this 3-year-old was shot in the head, we’re just hoping the best for this child,” Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the crime scene.
No arrests or charges have been reported.
