Marywood University swept an Atlantic East Conference baseball doubleheader from Saint Elizabeth University, 9-5 and 11-6, on Thursday at Morristown, New Jersey.
Already leading the first game, 2-0, Marywood scored five runs in the top of the second. Adam Ginsburg had a RBI single, Ethan Reccek a two-run single, Mike Biskup a run-scoring groundout and Watson Church a RBI double.
Ginsberg, Church and Tanner Vicendese each had two hits for the Pacers. Austin Bausman pitched four innings to get the win. Noah Trager worked the final three innings for the save.
In Game 2, Ginsberg had three hits and three RBIs for Marywood (14-9 overall, 3-2 league). Reccek and Cam Bott also had three hits and Vicendese added two hits and two RBIs.
Softball
At Scranton, Marywood University swept an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader from Saint Elizabeth University, 9-5 and 9-1.
After spotting Saint Elizabeth a 3-0 lead in the top of the second of the opener, Marywood answered with five runs in the bottom-half of the inning. Marley Sarafinko had a two-run double and Amber Little a two-run triple to highlight the inning.
Sarafinko, Tori Para, Renee McDonald. Lauryn Notari and Brianna Voyer all had two hits in the first game for Marywood.
Another five-run second inning in the nightcap helped the Pacers (10-6, 3-1) complete the sweep with a five-inning victory.
McDonald had three hits and one RBI. Sarafinko and Kat Davis had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Para and Mia Antolino each drove in two runs. Winning pitcher Emily Dubisz allowed an unearned run on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Lackawanna 10, Brookdale CC 2; Lackawanna 12, Brookdale CC 3: At Scranton, Lackawanna College swept a NJCAA Region 19 Division II-III crossover doubleheader from Brookdale Community College on Thursday at Scranton High School.
Mackenzie Adolfson had a pair of two-run doubles to lead Lackawanna in the opener. Riley Knott also had two doubles, while Mia Scalese added two hits and two RBIs. Ayahna Fleisher and Gracie Sokol also contributed two hits each. Winning pitcher Mekenzie Revere allowed two runs on three hits in five innings with three walks and seven strikeouts.
A 10-run first inning in the second game sent the Lady Falcons (24-7) on their way to the sweep. They have won five straight and 12 of 13.
Knott had two hits and three RBIs. Scalese added two hits and two RBIs and Arianna Gaylord chipped in a two-run single.
Catholic 5, Scranton 2; Catholic 5, Scranton 1: At Washington, D.C., Catholic University took a Landmark Conference doubleheader from the University of Scranton.
Daniela Brescia and Gabriella Gorzkowski each had two hits for Scranton in the first game and Gianna Muliero doubled.
Catholic then scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning of the second game. The Royals (11-8, 2-4) were limited to five hits, one of which was a double by Celia Totaro. Emmie Feltenberger drove in the lone Scranton run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
Men’s tennis
At Queens, New York, Aidan Brunner won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-7 (8-10), 6-1, to clinch Marywood University’s 4-3 victory over Pratt Institute in an Atlantic East Conference match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Brunner also paired with Jack Biggs for a win at No. 3 doubles. Zane Smoker also had wins at singles and doubles for the Pacers (7-6, 2-0). Fred Kloss added a win at No. 5 singles.
Women’s tennis
At Scranton, Gisele Falzone, Hannah Rowan, Nora Pencek and Kyleigh McNulty each had wins in singles and doubles to lead the University of Scranton to a 6-1 victory over Wilkes University in a Landmark Conference match at Royal Courts.
The Royals improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Pratt Institute 7, Marywood 0: At Queens, New York, Marywood University lost an Atlantic East Conference match to Pratt Institute at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Pacers dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.
