LOWER MERION, Pa. (WPVI) — The start of a new school year for more districts in our area is quickly approaching.

The Lower Merion School District is showing off some new technology, aimed at keeping students safe as they head to and from school.

New cameras are being placed on school buses.

They will capture drivers who fail to stop while the bus arm signal is out.

The system can detect license plates on vehicles and then share it with local law enforcement.

Cameras have been installed on all 135 buses.

Districts in Cheltenham Township, Upper Darby and Philadelphia all recently implemented the same program.
