The Pittsburgh Steelers formally met with Miami quarterback Carson Beck at the NFL Scouting Combine, then hosted him on the South Side for a pre-draft visit.

In his latest 2026 NFL Draft mock-up, posted Friday, NFL Network’s Chad Reuter had those interactions adding up to the Steelers taking Beck with a third-round choice (No. 76 overall), the same one Omar Khan acquired when he shipped off George Pickens last offseason.

NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein compared Beck to former Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett in his scouting report.

“Three-year starter who has weathered his share of ups and downs,” Zierlein wrote. “Beck has NFL-caliber size and a lot of experience playing in high-leverage games. He recovered from 2024 UCL surgery on his throwing elbow, but he appeared to lose some drive velocity on deep balls and move throws. … Beck projects as a good backup with the potential to earn a starting job down the road, but he must continue developing game-managing instincts.”

Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza (No. 1, Las Vegas), Alabama’s Ty Simpson (No. 16, New York Jets) and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (No. 65, Arizona) were chosen before Beck. Penn State’s Drew Allar (No. 157, Los Angeles Rams) and North Dakota State’s Cole Payton (No. 181, Detroit) were plucked in the fifth round of the projection.

“(McCarthy) is super, super smart,” Beck said about his meeting with McCarthy in Indianapolis. “Really, really smart coach. That meeting, it was a lot of ball talk, for the most part. There was a couple questions about obviously just figuring out who I am and wanting to know who I am, but it was a lot of ball talk. I really enjoyed that meeting. It was really just me and him going back and forth the whole time, just talking football, which is what I love to do.”
