READING, Pa. — On Good Friday, through the streets of Reading, dozens walking together,
recreating the Stations of the Cross.

It started around 1:45 p.m., at the Third and Spruce Rec Center.

Then, block by block, they made their way here, to St. Peter’s Church on South Fifth Street. Stopping along the way, to pray, and relive Jesus’ journey to the cross.

“We’re gathered here for the reenactment of Jesus Christ… to see how it all played out,” said Jorge Mateo of Reading.

For Jorge Mateo, this is tradition.

“I think I was like six or seven years old, my mother used to bring me here, and we used to come here. Now, I bring my kids to live the same thing,” he said.

A moment passed down.

You could see families, children, some even getting emotional.

“This can’t be explained, you feel it,” said María Mercedes Madera of Reading.

For María Mercedes Madera, this day is everything.

“I asked for this day off because today belongs to the Lord,” she said.

She says, it’s a reminder.

“We see what He went through, and every day, we continue to crucify Him with our actions.”

The walk lasted about an hour, ending here, just before 3 p.m.

A community remembering and reflecting
ahead of Easter Sunday.

“It’s important for us because of Easter, you know, it’s a big day for us,” Mateo added.
