Bishop Hannan repeated as District 2 Class AA boys cross country champions as Kevin O’Malley and Brian Butler finished 1-2. Tom Zukoski of Scranton Prep ran a course-record 16:03.5 to win the Class AAA boys race, but Wallenpaupack took the team title. In Class AAA girls, Lisa Roder of Wallenpaupack won her third title in four years in a course-record 18:08.3. … Carly Graytock won her third straight girls title, helping Forest City capture the District 12 team championship. Shawn Sparks of Susquehanna was the boys winner and Montrose took the team title. … Liz Steege of Lackawanna Trail won her fourth straight District 12 tennis championship. defeating teammate Brooke Yablonski in the final, 6-2, 6-2. … The University of Scranton outlasted Widener University in penalty kicks, 5-4, to capture its seventh straight Middle Atlantic Conference women’s soccer title. Michelle Brennan had the decisive kick after goalkeeper Karin Sandstrom made a save. … Abington Heights erupted for five first-half goals to defeat North Pocono, 6-0, in the District 2 Class AAA boys soccer semifinals. Andrew Weber and Mike Brigante each scored twice for the Comets.

At the District 2 Cross Country Championships, Wallenpaupack’s Kevin Sives repeated as Class AAA boys champ and Mark Bucklaw repeated as Class AA boys winner. Abington Heights took the Class AAA team title, while Scranton Prep won its sixth straight team crown in Class AA. In girls, Jessica Hunter from Wallenpaupack was the winner in Class AAA. … Matt McGloin passed for 324 yards and four touchdowns and Asa Lucas had 205 yards receiving and three scores as West Scranton beat Scranton, 41-27, in the annual Bell Trophy game. … In a matchup of unbeatens, Abington Heights defeated Delaware Valley, 21-6, to end the Warriors’ 16-game regular-season winning streak. Comets quarterback Jeremy Jayne passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns and Devin Hewitt ran for 66 yards and a score. … The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins improved their start to the season to 9-0 with a 5-1 victory over the Syracuse Crunch. Matt Hussey, Ryan Whitney, Erik Christensen, Michel Ouellet and Colby Armstrong had goals and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 19 of 20 shots.

At the PIAA Golf Championships in York, Tom Dzwonczyk of Holy Cross and Dylan O’Dell from Forest City earned state medals in Class AA by finishing eighth and 10th, respectively. … Top-ranked Scranton Prep forced six turnovers and held No. 2 Delaware Valley to 90 total yards in a 23-0 victory. Kevin Holmes had three interceptions for the Cavaliers and Ricky Morgan ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns, all but one yard coming in the second half. … Timmy Blaine had six catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns and also intercepted two passes as North Pocono snapped a five-game losing streak with a 20-7 win over Abington Heights. … Mike Lowry scored on a 1-yard run with 8:13 remaining and Lakeland’s defense stopped Riverside on downs at the 14-yard line with 34 seconds left as the Chiefs edges the Vikings, 14-13. … A 1-2 finish by Lexi Walsh and Mackenzie Greenfield helped give Holy Cross girls their third straight Class A title at the District 2 Cross Country Championships. Abington Heights girls won the Class AA team title. In boys, Will Davies of Riverside won the Class A boys race and Elk Lake took the team title. Wallenpaupack was team champ in Class AAA.
