The best team in Major League Soccer opens up its quest for a championship on Sunday, as the Philadelphia Union takes on the Chicago Fire in Game 1 of the opening round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
The Union are back at the top of the MLS charts once again. After a down 2024 season, the club rode a hot start to the 2025 campaign to stay near first place in the Eastern Conference. Thanks to five victories in a six-match span, Philadelphia clinched the Supporters’ Shield for the second time in franchise history.

Now, the Union look to their regular-season success into a deep playoff run. The last time they finished first in the East, they made it all the way to the MLS Cup Final.
The Fire had to win their way into the first round of the Eastern Playoffs. After a bumpy regular season, the club managed to finish eighth in the conference, hanging on for a Wild Card spot. This past Wednesday, they took care of Orlando City, winning 3-1, marking the club’s first postseason win since 2009.
