The Millgrove Fire Department in Alden says a pet food camera is credited with stopping a house fire from getting out of control.
Crews responded to a home on Genesee Street near Ransom Road around 4 o’clock Monday evening to reports of a kitchen fire.
The Chief told 2 On Your Side, something had hit a burner on the stove, causing it to turn on. That ignited a cutting board and a box of pet food on top. But thanks to a camera in the home, crews were able to respond quickly.
“Yesterday, they bought a pet feeder with a camera on it and it alerted them. They actually saw the fire on their camera and alerted us before the fire got real bad,” said Fire Chief Bob Eleczko.
He added, “They caught it really early. Thank God for that pet camera, it was minutes away from being really bad.”
The fire did about $10 thousand dollars of damage to the home. The fire chief added that you should never leave a cardboard box on your stove.
