READING, Pa. – An argument over parking in one Reading neighborhood has left a person dead and another behind bars.
43-year-old Luis Clavell-Gierbolini is charged with first and third-degree murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Muhlenberg Street for a shooting just before 7 p.m. Monday.
Arriving officers found the victim, later identified as 36-year-old Elimelec Vazquez, lying in the street. He was transported to Reading Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Court documents state that a witness told police an argument broke out between Vazquez and another individual after the victim warned them they better not have hit his car as they parallel parked behind it.
Vazquez and the individual allegedly began to argue from their porches, which were only a few houses away from one another. A witness told police Vazquez then walked over to the individual and demanded they come off their porch to fight.
That’s when police say Clavell-Gierbolini emerged from the house with a handgun and allegedly began to chase Vazquez. A witness told police they heard gunshots and saw Vazquez fall to the ground.
Clavell-Gierbolini is being held at Berks County Jail without bail.
He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 17.
