EXETER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (TNND) — An Uber driver in Pennsylvania got an unexpected surprise after finishing his shift — a live snake left behind in his car.

The Exeter Township Police Department on Sunday said Officer Grycon responded to the unusual call after the driver found a ball python in his trunk the morning after picking up passengers in Philadelphia.

According to police, the driver picked up two passengers who were traveling from a reptile show. After the driver dropped the passengers off, they contacted him to say they lost what they believed was jewelry and asked if they could look for it.

“Somewhere along the way, their ‘bag contents’ fell out,” police said. “The passengers claimed they lost some jewelry and wanted to search for it, but the driver had to keep moving.”

After returning home and parking his car in his garage overnight, the driver opened his trunk the next morning and found the snake.

“Turns out the passengers had left behind a ball python in the Uber,” police said.

Officer Grycon safely secured the snake and arranged for it to be properly cared for, police said.

No one was hurt, according to police.

Authorities said the incident serves as a reminder that officers are prepared to handle a wide range of calls — even those that slither in unexpectedly.

“Moral of the story: Whether it’s routine or something you definitely didn’t plan for, Officer Grycon and the Exeter Township Police Department have you covered,” police said.
