HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Unsolicited seeds are being sent by mail to Pennsylvania residents, leading to a warning being issued by the state’s Department of Agriculture.

A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture confirmed Wednesday it has received reports of unwanted seeds being mailed to residents.

Those who have received unsolicited seeds in the mail are urged by the department to do the following:

Over 500 crashes, nearly 300 DUIs in Pennsylvania on Easter weekend

Do not open inside the packaging

Double-bag seeds and put them in the trash

Do not burn or compost seeds or put them down drains

The seeds can harm agriculture, landscape, and environment since where they came from is unknown, the spokesperson said.

Pennsylvania isn’t the only state where people have reported getting seeds in the mail. ​​​​​​​​​​​​The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection has also received reports of residents receiving unsolicited seeds in the mail.
