BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Bethlehem Police Department is launching a new public safety program to help fight crime.
The Bethlehem PD Community Camera Program will link first responders and investigators with important surveillance video, the department said Thursday.
There are three ways that businesses and residents can participate: register your camera, integrate your cameras or purchase cameras.
Each level of involvement can help first responders during an emergency and in the aftermath.
Details on registering and FAQs can be found online.
Police also announced new technology to improve public safety.
New automated license plate readers will be installed in key locations across the city, the department announced Thursday.
The cameras come from Flock Safety, which is the company the City of Allentown used to install a gunshot audio detection system and license plate readers.
Bethlehem’s license plate readers will provide real-time alerts to track and recover stolen property.
The cameras also gather vehicle information quickly, which is important during emergencies and in solving cases.
