BETHLEHEM, Pa. – When Sam Masotto, the owner of Bonn Place Brewing, bought the Bavarian Tavern in South Bethlehem two years ago, he knew it would be perfect place for Bonn Place Brewing to expand.
“Not only did I have that warehouse aspect but it had, of course, the dining room in the bar area,” said Masotto.
However, in the nearly two years since they bought the building, there have been some setbacks. Particularly some environmental work that had to be done to the building that was once a gas station.
“I’m learning patience,” said Masotto.
Now, with all that behind him, the brewer is ready to get the Bavarian Tavern up and running again.
“We’re jazzing it up but without ruining it,” he said.
He’s looking to create a place much bigger than what their loyal customers are used to and adding food as well.
“It’s just one more extension we can provide to our guests,” said Masotto.
The location will add to an area of South Bethlehem seeing more and more development, something not lost on Masotto: “I feel like we have a commitment to this community that is such a commitment to us.”
Now they’re just waiting for final approval from the city.
“We provided the city with architectural drawings and applications for a building permit, and we are still waiting to hear back on that being finalized,” said Masotto.
They’re hoping to have it finished in the next two years.
