Don’t plan to mail your tax returns at the counter at the South Erie Post Office.
The post office, at 3607 Poplar St., is still closed.
And there’s no timeline for its reopening.
The office has been temporarily closed for repairs since Oct. 31.

There is no word yet on when the South Erie Post Office will reopen. It’s been closed since Oct. 31.
Repairs in progress
Some of the needed work on the building has been completed, but there’s more work yet to be done.
“Repairs to the roof are completed, pending an inspection, and we still need to repair interior damage caused by the roof leaks,” U.S. Postal Service spokesman Mark Wahl said in an email to the Erie Times-News.

USPS is awaiting contractor proposals for the work, Wahl said.
The office won’t reopen until necessary work is completed.
“A specific date has not been determined yet,” Wahl said. “We will notify the public when the facility will reopen once we have a specific timeline.”
Other Erie USPS locations
Mail previously delivered to post office boxes at the South Erie office is available for daily pickup at the Presque Isle Post Office, at 2711 Legion Road in Millcreek.
Mail left in collection boxes along the driveway of the South Erie Post Office is collected daily.
Neighboring residents and businesses miss buying stamps, sending packages and conducting other business at the South Erie Post Office.
“It’s convenient because it’s so close,” said Stacy Stephens, an agent with the Matthew Barczyk Allstate insurance agency at 3309 Liberty St., just blocks from the post office. “It’s a little inconvenient for us now that it’s closed.”
There are no other post offices on the city’s west side. The only other post offices in Erie are at 1401 State St. and 2108 E. 38th St.
Barczyk agency staff now typically buy stamps and mail bills at the Presque Isle Post Office, which is about three miles and 10 minutes away, and where there are often long lines for service. They look forward to the South Erie Post Office reopening, Stephens said.
“That will be wonderful,” Stephens said. “It has been a staple here for many, many years.”
The South Erie Post Office building was built in 1959, according to Erie County property records, which lists its address as 3611 Poplar St.
