ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The City of Allentown is getting a big cash infusion to create new affordable housing.

Two checks totaling $2.7 million were presented Friday to the Allentown Housing Development Corporation.

The state grant money will go towards fixing up two blighted properties into affordable housing units.

Congressman Ryan Mackenzie and Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk were both at the presentation.

The project is being made possible through FHL Bank’s “Blueprint Communities” initiative, which revitalizes older communities.

“Allentown is, like many other cities across the country, doing everything it can to remain affordable to continue to be the clean, safe, and healthy city that gives people the chance to get ahead. The only way we can do that is stay affordable the way we do that is by making smart investments.”

Mackenzie also took a tour of the Finata Color Lab Rehab project.
