(WHTM) — A new geotrail at Pennsylvania State Parks will tell the state’s role in American history through geocaches.

“Some are tied directly to the Revolution, others to the natural resources of 18th century Pennsylvania, while others speak to life on the frontier,” said Chris Kemmerer, education and interpretation section chief for state parks.

The new America250PA GeoTrail will run through 25 parks from April 11 this year to March 2028. Geocachers can find hints on Geocaching.com. Those who find all 25 geocaches will receive a commemorative completion coin.

There are 3.4 million active geocaches around the world and about 15 million players, said Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

DCNR announced the trail Friday at Codorus State Park, which encompasses land once used to produce munitions for the Continental Army. It’s also home to many geocaches.

“The geocache gives an additional thing to do,” Dunn said. “It causes young people and adults alike to learn a little more about the state park they’re in.”
