HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) — Water system upgrades are coming to part of Dauphin County this spring.

Pennsylvania American Water said it will invest $13.9 Million to improve the Hershey water system. The upgrades, it said, will support future growth, strengthen reliability and improve water flow for both everyday use and firefighing.

“These projects are about making sure Hershey’s water system is ready for the years ahead,”
said Bruce Brubaker, senior manager of engineering project delivery for Pennsylvania American
Water. “By adding new storage and replacing older pipelines, we’re helping ensure reliable
service, protecting public health, and supporting the community’s continued growth.”

The bulk of the investment is a new water storage tank and pump station.

Pennsylvania American Water said it will install a new two million gallon storage tank at a cost of $10 million. It’ll take a year to build.

Also beginning this spring is a $3.9 million project to replace a water main along Sand Beach Road and across the Swatara Creek. That will replace a mile of aging pipe, the company said.

Construction of the water main will take about seven months to complete, and is scheduled to be done by early October.
