Scot Gallowway, a Community School Director for Perry Elementary School said, “It’s a great opportunity for our students to learn new skills, practice a new sports, also learn sportsmanship, learn resilience and be good teammates.”

This event wasn’t just for the kids, but to bring the larger school community together.

Aaron L. Gast, the Director of Marketing and Communication for United Way said, “Having all ten of the Erie Community and elementary schools here today is fantastic because all these kids are going to go to school together in middle school and high school, so getting them together for a fun event is awesome.”

It also gave parents a way to get involved with their children outside of the classroom.

Savannah Pulliam, a parent said, “I think it’s a great event because we get to come out and see him play and enjoy 43-48other children and spend time with family.”

Officials said these games are more than just football, it’s about building community and giving kids something to work towards.

In a few years, these young children could be playing on the fields representing their school.

Dr. Natalyn Gibbs, the Superintend and CEO of Erie’s Public Schools said, “This is building excellence together. This is more than football, this is about connection, confidence, and celebrating healthy habits.”

The United Way’s next big event with Erie’s Public Schools is their spelling bee tournament in January.
