Cooper Roberts scored four goals Saturday as the University of Scranton knocked off Catholic University, 17-5, at Weiss Field in Scranton to take over sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference men’s lacrosse standings.

The Royals netted the first 13 goals and did not allow the Cardinals to score until 6:10 was left in the third quarter.

Chase Ritcey added three goals and one assist for Scranton (8-6 overall, 6-0 league). Jason Kozak chipped in one goal and four assists. Patrick D’Amaro, Thomas Popolizio and Quinn Carson contributed two goals apiece.

Cullen Lotz scored twice for Catholic (10-3, 5-1).

Marywood 15, Neumann 9: At Aston, Marywood University notched its first Atlantic East Conference victory over Neumann University.

Alexander Votra and Osten Grigas each scored three goals for the Pacers. Owen Kelly, Ben Meighan and Ricky Strobel netted two goals apiece. Meighan also contributed three assists.

Baseball

Vincent Napolitano’s grand slam in the sixth inning enabled the University of Scranton to take the first game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader from Lycoming College, 4-3, on Saturday in Williamsport. The Royals then took the second game, 10-5, to complete the sweep.

Lycoming built a 3-0 lead after five innings in the opener. But in the sixth, Jared Cassella and John Heitzman sandwiched singles around a Joey Granko walk. Napolitano followed by hitting a 2-1 pitch out to put the Royals in front.

Conor Campbell had two hits for Scranton.

In the nightcap, Hunter Petrich had two doubles and three RBIs for the Royals (22-7 overall, 11-3 league). Jimmy Lundari had two hits and two RBIs, while Granko, Heitzman and T.J. DiMattia each added two hits and one RBI. Aidan Casey and Jimmy Lundari both had two RBIs.

Marywood 6, Gwynedd Mercy 0 (7 inn.); Marywood 4, Gwynedd Mercy 0: At Gwynedd Valley, Marywood University swept an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader from Gwynedd Mercy to move into a first-place tie in the standings with Centenary.

Marywood used a two-out rally in the top of the seventh inning of the first game to break a scoreless tie. Two hit-batsmen with the bases loaded forced home the first two runs. Joel Ayers and Ethan Reccek sandwiched RBI singles around a two-run single by Tanner Vicendese. Reccek finished with three hits. Three Pacers pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout.

It was the same thing in the second game as Marywood broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the ninth. Nick Ruiz had an RBI double, two runs scored on bases-loaded hit-batters and Ayers delivered a sacrifice fly. Ruiz and Mike Biskup both had two hits for the Pacers (18-10, 6-3). Three pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout.

Lackawanna 11, CC of Morris 3; Lackawanna 10, CC of Morris 0: At Scranton, Lackawanna College swept an NJCAA Region 19 Division II doubleheader from County College of Morris.

Julian Abreu had three hits, including a solo home run, and four RBIs for Lackawanna in the first game. Jose Soquiel added two hits and one RBI and Quinten Jones drove in two runs. Starting and winning pitcher Josiah Williams struck out 10 in six innings.

Makai Day and Jacob Amador combined on a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in the second game for the Falcons (13-19-1, 7-5). Hunter Austra doubled, tripled, homered and had one RBI. Sean Moore added two hits and two RBIs and Kolton Haifley chipped in two hits and one RBI.

Softball

At Scranton, Emma Douglas tossed a two-hit, five-inning shutout with one walk and three strikeouts as the University of Scranton beat Lycoming College in the second game, 8-0, to earn a split of their Landmark Conference doubleheader at Magis Field.

Celia Totaro had three hits and one RBI for Scranton (15-12, 4-6) to support Douglas. Gabriella Gorzkowski had two hits and four RBIs, three coming on a fourth-inning home run.

Lycoming won the first game, 4-1. Gianna Muliero had two of the Royals’ six hits in the opener and one RBI.

Marymount 11, Marywood 2 (5 inn.); Marymount 8, Marywood 4: At Scranton, Marymount University swept an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader from Marywood University.

Riley Marshall had an RBI triple in the fourth inning of Game 1, then scored on a single by Renee McDonald to bring the Pacers within 3-2. But Marymount broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning.

Game 2 saw Marymount score six runs in their final two at-bats to rally for the sweep. Marshall and Lauryn Notari each had two hits and one RBI for the Pacers. Ariana Shellman contributed two hits.

CBCC Catonsville 6, Lackawanna 1; Lackawanna 12, CBCC Catonsville 0 (5 inn.): At Scranton, Riley Knott hit a three-run home run and Ayahna Fleisher cracked a three-run double to highlight a seven-run first inning in the second game to help Lackawanna earn a split of their nonregion doubleheader.

Fleisher finished 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs. Mackenzie Adolfson also had three hits for the Lady Falcons (28-9) with two RBIs. Knott wound up with two hits and four RBIs. Kyleah Edwards and Laniah Tasker chipped in two hits apiece. Mekenzie Revere threw a five-inning, four-hit shutout with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Catonsville won the opener despite Fleisher again going 3 for 3 for Lackawanna. Tasker and Gracie Sokol each added two hits.

Women’s lacrosse

At Washington, D.C., the University of Scranton stayed unbeaten in Landmark Conference play with a 10-4 over Catholic University.

Jillian Lopez had three goals for the Royals (10-4, 6-0). Eileen Hewitt had two goals and three assists and Grace DiDominica finished with two goals and one assist. Eva Guerino made nine save.

Men’s tennis

At Scranton, the University of Scranton blanked Elizabethtown College, 7-0, on Senior Day in Landmark Conference action at Royal Courts.

After the Royals (7-7, 4-1) took two of three matches to secure the doubles point, Max Dombrowski at No. 1, Lucas Kotcho at No. 3 and Nathan Harrison at No. 5 each won their singles matches in three sets. Ethan Borick at No. 2, Harrison Clark at No. 4 and Benjamin Blum at No. 6 took their singles matches in straight sets.

Women’s tennis

At Scranton, the University of Scranton swept Elizabethtown College, 7-0, on Senior Day in Landmark Conference action at Royal Courts.

Haley Kenny won in three sets at No. 5 singles for the Royals (9-2, 5-0). Sarah Crawford at No. 1, Gisele Falzone at No. 2, Erin O’Mara at No. 3, Hannah Rowan at No. 4 and Avery Emmons at No. 6 won their singles matches in straight sets. Scranton also won all three doubles matches.

Women’s golf

At Selinsgrove, the University of Scranton tied for seventh in the 14-team field at the Susquehanna University Spring Invitational at Susquehanna Valley Country Club. The Royals had a team score of 405. Susquehanna won with a 344.

Julia Downing led Scranton with a 24-over 94. Cassandra Weir followed with 102, Emily Davis had a 103 and Mara Bilenski shot 106.

Women’s track and field

At Center Valley, Peyton Fox had two program record-breaking performances to headline the University of Scranton’s showing at the DeSales Invitational.

Fox won the hammer throw at 49.36 meters and was second in the discus at 38.75 meters, both marks surpassing her previous program bests.

Afua Apau won the shot put at 12.09 meters, breaking her program record. Rachael Johns won the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters. Lily Kelleher was second in the pole vault at 2.74 meters. Madeline Samar was second in the 100 meters in 13.62 seconds. Isabella Santos was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.03 and third in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.19 seconds. Shannon Pulis was second in the 5,000 meters in 20:45.50 and Emma DiLemme took third in the 1,500 meters in 5:15.93. Scranton was victorious in the 4×400-meter relay.

Men’s track and field

At Center Valley, wins by Ryan Shockley and Ethan Caprarola highlighted the University of Scranton’s efforts at the DeSales Invitational.

Shockley took the 5,000 meters, while Caprarola claimed the 800 in 1:59.86.

Daniel Lanahan was second in the 1,500 meters in 4:12.95. Brian Hard placed second in the 400 meters in 51.10 seconds, Vincent Nola was second in the 200 meters in 22.73 seconds and Cael Krushnowski was third in the 100 meters in 11.57 seconds. Joe Castellano was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.83 seconds. Luke Karcutskie was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.28 seconds. Brendan Perez was second in the triple jump at 12.16 meters, while Christopher Threston was third in the javelin at 45.46 meters.
