SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crowds filled the streets, and the energy was high on Sunday in Lackawanna County as runners pushed their limits for the Scranton Half Marathon. Thousands of runners packed the streets, turning the Electric City into a course of movement, music, and motivation.
Participants were chasing different goals, like beating a personal best or simply crossing the finish line.
The race stretched through neighborhoods, over hills, and into the heart of downtown Scranton.
Organizers say this event is about more than running: It focuses on health, community, and giving back.

“I have been a runner my whole life, but I was a track runner. I was always sprinting, so I never ran more than 400 m, so this for me is like a totally different ball game, so just to be able to do something like this as a sprinter is like mind-blowing to me,” Archbald resident Ava Angeloni said.
“It’s something I never thought I’d do in my life. Honestly, if you told me two years ago, I was gonna do this. I’m laughing in your face, probably so it’s very surreal to me,” Mark Werger from Kingston explained.
Sunday’s race winner was Josh Izewski of Durham, North Carolina, finishing with a time of one hour and five minutes.
Congratulations, Josh and all of the participants!
