The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) PAC announced Monday that it’s backing state Rep. Chris Rabb (D) ahead of the May Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District.
“Pennsylvania state Representative Chris Rabb is a social justice activist, an educator who helped unionize 1,500 adjunct professors and a legislator who has taken on Republicans and the billionaire class to create a democracy that works for everyone rather than just the wealthy few,” CPC PAC co-chairs Democratic Reps. Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), Greg Casar (Texas) and Maxwell Frost (Fla.) said in a statement first shared with The Hill.
Rabb, in a separate statement, said he was “honored” to have the group’s endorsement, adding that the “CPC is on the frontlines in Congress fighting for the bold and transformative agenda working families need in Philly and across the country.”
The state legislator is running in a crowded primary to replace retiring Rep. Dwight Evans (D-Pa.) in Philadelphia. Other contenders include former state party chair and state Sen. Sharif Street (D) as well as Dr. Ala Stanford, the founder of the Black Doctors Consortium.
Monday’s endorsement, however, underscores the clear establishment-progressive proxy battle playing out between Street and Rabb.
Street has received endorsements from the Philadelphia Democratic Party and former Gov. Ed Rendell (D), while Rabb is backed by groups like the Justice Democrats and Pennsylvania Working Families Party.
In 2024, the solid blue district voted for former Vice President Harris by 77 percentage points, according to The Downballot and whoever wins the May 19 primary is seen as the heavy favorite to replace Evans in November.
