The first official day of summer — June 21 — is still a few months away, but the Old Farmer’s Almanac is providing predictions of what an Erie summer might look like this year.
The Farmer’s Almanac, which is the oldest almanac in the country, predicts the lower lakes region, which includes Erie, to have a hot and wet summer for 2026.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac, which was last updated on April 7, is predicting a hotter-than-normal summer across much of the United States and southern Canada, with most of the heat expected in July or August. The July through August span is expected to be hotter than average for that time of year.
The forecast suggests that the heat is expected to build as the season progresses.
These predictions are long range, meaning they show the seasonal outlook and not the day-to-day forecast.

How can the hot and rainy weather impact Erie residents?
According to the Almanac, a hot and rainy summer supports rapid growth for plants and fungi, which then produces a higher risk of fungal disease and insects.
To help with the weather, the Almanac suggests the improvement of air flow, avoiding overhead watering and the removal of affected leaves early to prevent spread.

Should Erie expect severe weather this summer?
The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts potential tropical activity periods to watch with exact timing and impacts varying.
Erie, which is part of the Appalachians region, could experience a tropical depression in late June, according to the Almanac.

According to the National Weather Service, here are the average high and low temperatures through the months of June, July, August and September:
June: average high temperature: 77.1 degrees; average low temperature: 59.4 degrees; average temperature: 68.2 degrees.
July: average high temperature: 88.1 degrees; average low temperature: 64.2 degrees; average temperature: 72.7 degrees.
August: average high temperature: 79.9 degrees; average low temperature: 63.2 degrees; average temperature: 71.5 degrees.
September: average high temperature: 73.7 degrees; average low temperature: 56.7 degrees; average temperature: 65.2 degrees.
