Fast, faster and fastest, that’s the speeds Carlos Lagrange is throwing a baseball. The #2 prospect of the New York Yankees has topped out in his first two outings with the Railriders at 102 miles per hour.
Carlos Lagrange says, Railriders pitcher(#2 prospect), “Fastball,
Ide says, Of course the fastball,
Lagrange, ” So yeah of course the fastball sweeper. Yeah that’s me. I had a lot of confidence in my four pitches.
Ide asks, What are you trying to get better at as a pitcher?
Yeah, I try to be better in my strikes zone, you know, that’s the most important for me. So, I throw my pitch in the zone. So I will not let them score. “.
Elmer Rodriquez was the youngest pitcher selected in the 2021 draft at 17 years and 11 months. He came to the Yankees in 2024 and now is the #3 prospect with the team.
He knew from an early age he could throw.
Elmer Rodriquez, Railriders Pitcher(#3 prospect) says, “Think when I was seven years old, I started pitching, I remember I used to be one of the hardest throwers of the team. So I was like, I mean, ever since then, like, I’ve always loved pitching. You know, I used to play position too. If I was like, like pitching, like, since early on, my know, early days. And in baseball it was my favorite position and just got better and better, like as time went on, and, you know, ended up being a pitcher.
My draft year. Like I’m like, yeah, I would be a good pitcher. I could throw hard strikes and all that. But at the same time I don’t really mechanics or right like we’re really off, you know, at the time I, you know, seek help for a professional try like pitcher like and ever since I’ve been with them and it’s like, you know, I’ve been fortunate, you know, have people like along me training me and to help me. “
The 22-year-old from Puerto Rico and Lagrange have been impressive early on with Scranton-Wilkes Barre.
Rodriquez has a 1.80 ERA with 7 strikeouts while Lagrange has 10 k’s in three starts.
Shelley Duncan, Railriders Manager says, Two guys are absolutely filthy, two guys are really exciting for everybody in baseball to watch.
Two young prospects, a tremendous amount of talent. This is, pretty much their first time in Triple-A,
It’s just this is fun. Is fun watching these guys out of the get go, the more times they get on the mound, the more comfortable they get and the better version we’re going to see.
Both of these young pitching prospects are still trying to figure out what it means to throw at Triple-A. There’s no rush in bringing them up to the major leagues any time soon.
Rodriquez says, “I can’t control that it is out of my hands. So I was like, I just try to come in every day and just work as hard as possible. Like, obviously, like the goal isto get to the bigs. The sooner I get there then the better. But I mean, obviously there’s, you know, some stuff I got to work on, you know, to, to prepare myself for like, you know, when the day comes and I get the opportunity to be there, like be ready and just trying to bring out the best I can. “
Lagrange added, “ The most important to take it one outing at a time. you can control when they call you big leagues. you can control what you do in the game and pitch by pitch. “
