Pennsylvania Treasury Department Warns of Text Scams

Pennsylvania State Police are alerting the public to an identity theft scam involving the Erie Otters Hockey Club.

State police say they are investigating an identity theft and deception incident reported on April 8, 2026, in Waterford Township.

According to investigators, unknown individuals allegedly used the name of a representative of the Erie Otters Hockey Club to contact potential vendors, claiming the team was seeking vendors for the 2026–2027 season. The suspects reportedly attempted to collect a deposit to “secure” a vendor spot.

Police say the intended victim recognized the offer as a scam before sending any money, resulting in no financial loss. However, authorities are warning businesses and individuals to remain cautious, noting that similar fraudulent schemes may be circulating.
