GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Greenville City Council took its first steps in approving funding for a conference center district near downtown.
The conference center district is expected to include a luxury hotel, office space, multi-family housing and a partially underground parking garage with about 1,400 parking spaces. Council previously voted to allow the city manager to buy the property, currently a parking lot, where leaders say construction could begin in less than a year.
Leaders on Monday unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance that would allocate $26 million in state funds for the project.
More readings will follow before the funds are officials placed towards the project.
