A Pennsylvania House committee unanimously approved a bill that would lower the default speed limit on dirt and gravel roads from 55 mph to 35 mph. The commonwealth has more than 23,000 miles of unpaved public roads, which lawmakers say can be prone to erosion, dust and wear. Municipalities would still be allowed to post even lower speed limits. The bill now moves to the full house for consideration.
