SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A brand new place of play is coming to Scranton: The city just landed a $100,000 grant to build a mini soccer pitch at Weston Field. It will be lit up, accessible, and open to anyone.
It’s the first of its kind in all of northeastern Pennsylvania.
Construction starts in May. It’ll be ready by mid-June, just in time for the FIFA World Cup.
The announcement comes after Scranton was selected last month to host one of the three Pennsylvania World Cup fan zones later this year.
