PITTSBURGH, PA — The building at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Taylor Street in Bloomfield has housed several bars over the years, among them C&LCafe, Letwin’s Tavern, Patsy Leon’s Bar, Wanock’s Bar. But the its most well-known name is the one it has had for four decades: Tessaro’s.
The late Kelly Harrington bought the business in 1985 and turned it into a neighborhood bar and restaurant that has garnered a well-earned, award-winning reputation as a place to get some of the best burgers and steaks in Pittsburgh.
And, according to one website, it offers the best burgers in Pennsylvania.
OnlyInYourState.com has published a list of the top burger joints in every state according to its readers. Tessaro’s came out number one in the Keystone State.
Here’s what Only In Your State had to say about the place:
“For a fantastic Pittsburgh burger you’ll never forget, head to Tessaro’s American Bar & Hardwood Grill, where chef Kelly Harrington’s legacy lives on through a hamburger best described as ‘genuine, authentic, and honest.’ Beyond its sheer size, what sets this burger apart begins with the in-house butcher preparing all-beef ground chuck burgers on a custom-built iron grill. The result? Burgers so flavorful that you can smell them all the way down Liberty Avenue.”
